my cousin brought my attention to this. This sucks! I can no longer read the insights & stories of random old people on my favorite tracks, mostly the automatically-uploaded kind from “official artist channels,” or Topic.

Anyone know why they might start doing this? something nigh the switch from google play music to youtube music?

Near probable because YouTube comments are historically, legendarily toxic and now that they’re a monetized music streaming service they’re cracking downwardly.

Anyone know why they might get-go doing this?

Probably a mix of cracking down on “toxicity” and enforcing a comfy skilful ol’ acme-downwards arroyo to communications.

Well-nigh likely because YouTube comments are historically, legendarily toxic and now that they’re a monetized music streaming service they’re cracking down.

From personal experience I’ve found that the comments section for songs is less toxic than that, especially for older or smaller artists. People only seek out these videos because they like the songs, and the majority of comments take something positive to say.
Plus, I don’t see how the comments department really affects the workings of Youtube Music in whatever way- I don’t think you can even access comments when you’re using it. I don’t come across why Youtube needs to do this wide-sweeping emptying of song comments

Consider from a corporate perspective though – they take zippo to lose by removing them given their negative public prototype.

Are you lot fucking serious? My god, what a loss. I’m not existence ironic here–at that place’s history is those comments. Quondam geezers pouring their hearts out into those boxes, sharing some of their nigh wonderful memories. Lost to salve worthless corporate confront.

There’south a lesson for you, on who you lot can rely upon to preserve cultural memory.

I’ve definitely noticed this over the final calendar week or two and as well wondered what was going on.

Consider from a corporate perspective though – they have nothing to lose by removing them given their negative public image.

I experience they should piece of work on ridding of narrow-minded videos, misinformation and reactionaries over muting comments on music videos. Might help more than, tbh.

I feel they should piece of work on ridding of bigoted videos, misinformation and reactionaries over muting comments on music videos. Might assistance more, tbh.

They may start to at present, only I completely get why they oasis’t – those bulldoze clicks and traffic large time, those are valuable commodities in the short run only volatile in the long run.

that’southward extremely shitty. comments are a way of direct commenting on art which should be preserved and valued. permit the internet be the net ffs

Agree with you here. Except for (big) charts hits from the by iii-5 years, i very rarely come across negative comments.

And i’m yet to see a video with the comments turned off. Whatever example?

Agree with you hither. Except for (big) charts hits from the past 3-5 years, i very rarely come up across negative comments.

And i’yard even so to encounter a video with the comments turned off. Any instance?

Any non music video topic channel song

It’southward always been at the discretion of the person submitting the videos. In light of the events in America in the last week, I would be fine if all comments were shut downwardly for a while.

Heh. What a spineless view on the whole affair.

It’s a shame that YouTube have taken the easy style out and simply gone directly into turning comments off

I would rather be spineless is better than stupid, and plainly Youtube agrees. Yous opinion is worth literally nothing.
